Healthy Me - a Self Care Class for Massage Therapists

Learn concepts of stretching and strengthening to keep or restore mobility and proper

Learn techniques that facilitate fluids flow and exchange, neurological, physiological, and
physical principals to influence movement of fluid. Learn protocol applications to eliminate
or reduce edema and bruises, eliminate toxins, increase or decrease blood pressure,
increase joint mobility, decrease arthritic pain, maintain cartilage regeneration, prevent
development of arthritis and more. Review related anatomy and physiology.
Modifications of fluid technique are taught for athletes, elderly people, clients with

Healing Touch Level 1 CRN 37857

A course of study toward a certificate of completion in Healing Touch which incorporates a
variety of basic to advanced healing modalities. Certification as a HT practitioner is
available on application following completion of 5 levels and additional requirements. Level
1 allows students with varying backgrounds to enter, acknowledge their previous learning
and to further develop concepts and skills in energy- based therapy. A strong commitment

Nurturing the Mother, Pregnancy Massage CRN 37856 Flyer

Nurturing the Mother is offered for massage therapists, childbirth educators, labor
assistants, midwives, labor & delivery nurses, and anyone who desires a deeper knowledge
of birth and massage – and the wonderful experience of bringing them together. The
course includes the following content areas:
• Fertility Massage introduction. Students will receive a demonstration of the protocol and
massage techniques to support their clients in this powerful life creating journey. This has
now expanded into a 2 day certification program.
• Pregnancy Massage. This extensive section includes full-body massage techniques,
proper positioning for the pregnant mother, specific strokes and points to relieve
discomforts, as well as contraindications and cautions for massage therapy. You will have
the opportunity to work one-on-one with a pregnant volunteer.
• Support for Labor and Delivery. You will learn massage techniques, working with a variety
of positions for the birth mother, plus tools for nurturing and offering emotional support in
labor.
• Postpartum Massage. Massage and the realignment of the birth mother’s body, support
for breastfeeding, and strokes to alleviate postpartum tension will be covered.
• Infant Massage. You will practice massage strokes on a doll in a sample sequence which
can be taught to parents who want to learn how to massage their child.
Through demonstration and practice, in the sharing of our stories, and in the willingness to
be present with the heart, mind and spirit of the birth process, we will open ourselves to the
transformation which occurs for all those involved in a birth.

injuries, it improves the quality of your massage. Superior body mechanics allow you to
deliver optimum pressure with less effort, creating better results for your client. Learn to
lengthen the tight muscles and strengthen the weak muscles in order to prevent injury and
be more at ease in your work. This class offers experiential as well as cognitive information
about the simple and easy steps you can take to make your work more enjoyable. You will
learn and practice exercises to perform prior to massage sessions and between clients to
make your body more fluid, flexible and comfortable through-out your work day. Class is
taught by a massage therapy educator and professional level yoga instructor and yoga
therapist.

addition, diverse topics will be covered in review of laws regarding the practice of massage
therapy, scope of practice, standards of practice, business ethics and more.

This course will meet Maryland State HIV and Infection Control continuing education
requirements. Topics covered will include pathophysiology of HIV/AIDS, how it is
transmitted, current treatment and epidemiologic trends and what this means to the
massage therapists work. In addition, Hepatitis, TB, MRSA, and other common infections
and infection control standards will be presented and discussed.

Fibromyalgia and Massage prepares massage therapists to safely work on clients who
have fibromyalgia, providing a thorough understanding of this syndrome and treatment
options in order to provide the best possible care to clients. Learn to assess a client’s
symptoms, when to refer to other practitioners, and to select appropriate techniques to help
alleviate symptoms. Participants will learn the working definition of fibromyalgia syndrome,
and an understanding of theories on why people get fibromyalgia. Developing a thorough
